OUR LADY'S CHURCH  (Stationstraat)

The modern Our Lady’s Church, designed by G. Vanden Weghe in 1937, was built for the parish of Our Lady, established in 1913. Emilie Mulle de Terschueren donated the lot to the church-fabric.

O.-L.-VrouweparochieThe design of the church, with a tall saddlebacked tower, is dominated by the Gothic arch and classic building materials such as stone and brick. In 1938, M. Vander Meeren revived the front with four monumental whitestone statues of evangelists and a small one of Our Lady with Child, placed on a higher level.

Vander Meeren also sculptured the figure of Christ above the high altar, and the stylized St. Theresia in the side aisle. A bronze Stations of the Cross, statues of the Apostles and the screen of the baptistery are also worth the visit. The leaded windows are the work of C. Van Hevel, R. Vande Weghe and G. De Sander.
